Since announcing that we are taking two years off from work to travel the world, there are two main questions that we get asked: “Where will you go?” and “How much will it cost?”.
The answer to the first question is “Wherever we feel like going”.
While we are basing ourselves in Bangkok, we won’t be living there fulltime, at least not to start with. We will rent a small self-storage locker in Bangkok to store the gear that we won’t need all of the time. We have vague plans to explore Southeast Asia before we head to Europe, Africa, South Asia and the Americas. Very little has been locked in at this stage as we want the freedom to make spontaneous decisions.
The answer to the second question is “We have no idea!”.
It will depend on many factors… do we drink beer or Champagne1? Eat at fancy restaurants or street vendors2? Stay at 5-star hotels or a tiny room with no windows in a 2-star hotel3?
It also depends on how question one pans out. Some places are more expensive than others. While we don’t want to limit ourselves, we are also conscious that we have a finite budget, and two years is a long time to travel.
One of the things we will try to do with this blog is document our trip and our expenses, so you can get an idea of how much things cost for the way that we travel.
We will also try to provide an insight into the logistical side of long-term international travel, including topics such as visas, insurance, planning, finances and connectivity.
The next post will outline some of the preparation that has gone into getting ready for the trip.
If you have any questions, please hit us up.
