Christmas by the Beach

The past week has flown by. As did the time last night while playing pool at the Bangcockney Bar until 1:00AM.

On Monday 23rd of December we caught the BTS Skytrain to Ekkamai station and walked to the Ekkamai Bus Terminal to catch a bus to the seaside city of Hua Hin.

The bus tickets to Hua Hin cost 200THB each (about AU$9.50) and the bus was scheduled to depart hourly. We caught the 9:00AM bus which dropped us off in central Hua Hin around 1:30PM. We checked into our accommodation at Pierview Rooms and spent the afternoon exploring the nearby fishing pier and Hua Hin beach.

The view from our balcony

Hua Hin Beach wasn’t ideal for swimming, however there are several nearby resorts. One of which is The Standard, which offers day passes for use of the resort facilities including the pool. We tried to purchase a day pass for Christmas Day however they were not available over the Christmas period. Instead, we went for lunch at a seafood restaurant called Monglonglae and had some drinks at the bar below our accommodation.

Between some seaside restaurants

Over the next four days we spent some time exploring the Hua Hin night market and playing pool at one of the bars on Soi Bintabaht. We usually ended up at the bar below our accommodation. It was nice, however their choice of music could have been a bit more extensive at times.

Downtown Hua Hin

On Boxing Day I woke at 6:25AM to watch the start of the Boxing Day Test streamed live on my laptop. Unfortunately, they did not have it on the TV at the bar below our accommodation, so I listened to the coverage on ABC Grandstand.

The rooftop pool at our accommodation in Bangkok

On Thursday we caught a Tuk Tuk to the Bluport Shopping Mall to catch our bus back to Bangkok. We had booked our return ticket the day before. It cost 291THB each and dropped us off at Mo Chit BTS Station, near the Chatuchak Market. The return bus was a bit more luxurious, however it would have been more convenient to go to Ekkamai as it is much closer to our accommodation in Nana.

Returning to Bangkok felt like coming home
Back on Soi 4

I am writing this from the Ibis Styles Sukhumvit 4. It is conveniently located directly across the road from the Bangcockney Bar. Which was very fortunate given our room wasn’t quite ready when we arrived to check in.

We will spend the next week here exploring more of Bangkok before we head to Pattaya to experience the other nearby beach destination, then we will venture further south to some of the islands.
