Happy New Year & More Beach

We saw in the new year for 2025 from the Bangcockney Bar in Bangkok. It was a wild night with street fireworks, tequila shots and great times with the awesome staff and locals.

A bit early, but getting into the spirit of things

The next few days saw us lounging by the rooftop pool at the Ibis Styles Sukhumvit 4.

On Thursday we woke up early and made our way to the Thai Travel Clinic near Victory Monument BTS station to get the last of our travel vaccinations for this year. We both needed vaccinations for Japanese Encephalitis as well as our second Rabies shot. We arrived 30 minutes early and were all done within an hour.

That afternoon, Bernii went to see the re-release of Interstellar on IMAX at Siam Paragon. It was her first IMAX experience and her favourite movie and actor. She thoroughly enjoyed it. I went for a walk to Benjakitti Park and then over to Lumpini Park for a run. It was my first run in about 3 months and my legs held up surprisingly well. I’m looking forward to getting back into running as I prepare for a trek in July (stay tuned for details).

Friday saw us take a van from Ekkamai Bus Terminal to Pattaya Beach. It cost us 160THB each (about AU$7.50).

Pattaya City

We are staying at the Grand Hotel Pattaya, just off the Walking Street. It is a bit noisy at night given the location, but otherwise not too bad.

Pattaya reminds us of Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast, except without the surf, and with more fat old men walking around without shirts on. Not our ideal beach getaway but I’m sure we will find it eventually.

We went to the Sanctuary of Truth yesterday. It is a large museum structure built entirely of wood, with intricate carvings of Buddhist and Hindi beliefs on the philosophy of life. It is still under construction. It cost 500THB each (about AU$24) for entry and a guided tour and was well worth the experience.

Today we will head over to Jomtien beach to have a few beers and watch the sunset over water.

Tomorrow we will catch a van back to Bangkok to do some more exploring of different areas of the city, before we either head north to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, or south to Koh Chang and Koh Kood (still to be decided).
