Khao Lak and Bangkok

We reunited in Bangkok on the 17th of May where we spent three nights staying at the Ibis Bangkok Sukhumvit 4. We have stayed there regularly as it is a great location and meets our needs: a comfortable bed, cold air conditioning and a hot shower. Bernii has also reached platinum status in the Accor Live Limitless loyalty programme, so we also get a free welcome drink and free breakfast.

After three days of catching up with friends we headed to Don Mueang Airport and flew to Phuket International Airport with Nok Air. We then caught a taxi to Khao Lak where we spent 4 nights at the Apsara Beachfront Resort and Villa (AU$97.47 per night). The resort is located in a quiet area just north of the village of Khao Lak.

We enjoyed good weather for the first two days in Khao Lak, however after that we would often experience rain and storms, usually in the afternoons.

A short walk from the resort is Memories Beach Bar, a great place to spend the afternoon. The staff were so friendly. We often ate lunch and dinner there as it had a really good restaurant.

After 4 nights at Apsara Beachfront Resort, we then caught a taxi into the village of Khao Lak where we spent the next 4 nights at Khaolak Oriental Resort (AU$79.56 per night). It was the very end of the tourist season so there wasn’t a lot of people around and some restaurants were closed.

We spent the days at the pool or exploring the village, and at night we often ended up at Woods Bar and Bistro which was just next door to the resort.

On the 28th of May we returned to Bangkok where we again stayed at the Ibis Bangkok Sukhumvit 4 for 3 nights.

We then moved to an Airbnb on Soi 10 which has allowed us to do our own laundry, cook some meals, and use the gym and pool. It is also located very close to Benchakitti Park which allows us to exercise outdoors in the late afternoon (when it cools down a bit).

We have spent our days revisiting our favourite places in Bangkok and exploring the city further.

We also went to the Mahanakhon SkyWalk which is a glass tray observation deck on the 78th floor of the Mahanakhon building (an iconic building in Bangkok). Entry was 1000THB each (AU$46.97) and the views of Bangkok were amazing.

Bernii departs for London today, and on the 28th of June I will fly to Pakistan for our next solo adventures before we reunite in London on the 24th of July to commence the next segment of our extended holiday in Europe, Africa and India.
